Thinking about all the amazing possibilities in life and planning for those most important, while being prepared for challenges and obstacles that could arise on the journey.
What do you love about what you do?
I love working with numbers. Letting data, intuition, and past experiences inform my decisions, especially where there is imperfect information. Ambiguity is a part of life. It requires doing the best with the information at hand.
Who is someone you admire, and why?
My father. He lived his life with optimism about the future, and that positivity was contagious to all those around him. His favorite line every morning was “It’s another day of opportunity!” That used to drive me crazy growing up, but now I realize the wisdom in that simple saying.
Name one thing that keeps you up at night? Everything and nothing. I like to reflect on what went right and wrong during the day. But I don’t dwell on those because I know the morning will bring another day of opportunity.
What would people be surprised to learn about you? I have my private pilot’s license which I got when working at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as part of a cooperative education assignment related to my undergraduate education. Although I haven’t flown a plane in years, I look forward to getting back up in the air at some point. The Pacific Northwest is an incredibly beautiful place to fly.
When I am not working, you will find me spending time with my daughters, exercising, skiing, boating, hiking or golfing. Regardless of the season, I’ll always find a way to get outdoors.
